White Sox Dave Belongs In Jail
I think this is the 57th time we’ve blogged/tweeted this week’s podcast and for good reason. We packed 5 pounds of shit in a 10 pound bag or whatever the saying is. I never get that stuff right.
Point is we had a loaded show and probably one of our more interesting guests if not certainly the least famous. (No offense, Adam.) But he was the valedictorian of his law school, practices criminal defense in Chicago and has taken up a notable interest in the 1919 Black Sox scandal. Specifically from the perspective of Why Did Cook County Try To Put These Guys In Jail?
It’s a wild story involving stolen transcripts, Shoeless Joe Jackson getting swindled by Comiskey, lawyers being jagoffs etc. And very likely it’s the first time you’ll ever hear any of the shit Adam talks about.
Interesting enough, jail time got left out for everyone, but because of certain technicalities rather than a Finding of Innocence. In other words, there’s some meat left on the bone should the right evidence come to light.
As such I propose White Sox Dave stand in for public trial on behalf of the accused. He blatantly admits on this week’s show that he’d be the 9th cheater no questions. That he’d sand bag his own father if it meant a small pay bump back in the day and be Ed Cicotte’s right hand man. Not that I’m surprised or anything because I’d be doing the exact same. But I’m the Cubs guy and he’s the White Sox guy so I’m sliding this one over to him.
I’d LOVE to see Dave defend these accusations in a public trial. LOVE LOVE LOVE. So much so that as I’m typing this, the brilliant idea of having a local law school host a moot court competition on the basis of the missing 1919 Black Sox trial would be an A+ event. Bring in different schools, get some sports lawyers to talk. Maybe tease it to Rick Hahn or Theo as the keynotes seeing as they’re both law school guys. Do a competition and shit in front of real judges and then the championship round is a 1-on-1 debate against WSD. Winner gets a beef, loser does a night in Cook County.
Again I’m just spitballing guys. If you got something better send it my way.
In the meantime listen to the show.
